Interview with Cassie Rose, Moonglow (2009) Cosplayer

1: Where are you from, and what do you do?

Cassandra Rose: I am from the states, and live in the small town of Piscataway, New Jersey. Thankfully no New Jersey related reality shows have found their way to my boring town… Yet. I am a writer/correspondent for a website called the Daily BLAM! where I mostly write comic book reviews, but on occasion I go to advanced screenings and press junkets to do movie reviews as well.

2: Do you have a favorite color?

Cassandra Rose: Without a doubt, for as long as I can remember my favorite color has been purple. A good deal of my wardrobe and most of my accessories are purple.

3: What is a favorite hobby of yours?

Cassandra Rose: I love love love reading. My current library is at about 550 books and steadily growing, and on average I read 100 books a year. I’m kind of obsessed.

4: Were you a Rainbow Brite fan as a child?

Cassandra Rose: I definitely was, but I was too young to catch it when it originally aired so I was raised on re-runs.

5: Do you have Rainbow Brite Memorabilia from your childhood? If so, what is your favorite?

Cassandra Rose: Most of my childhood toys were sold in a yard sale, with the exception of my Denver the Last Dinosaur stuffed animal.

6: Growing up, what were some of your favorite animated programs or childhood heroes?

Cassandra Rose: I was a big fan of the Pink Power Ranger and David the Gnome, the Pink Ranger for a her bad ass fighting skills and her robotic pterodactyl, and David the Gnome because he got to take care of sick animals.

7: Do you make costumes often? What are some of your favorites?

Cassandra Rose: I generally make costumes around Halloween and if I’m going to any conventions. My top three favorite costumes sans my Moonglow outfit were all from Halloween, when I was Sango from “InuYasha”, Dead Avril Lavigne , and a Gothic/Anti-cheerleader.

8: Your costume was Moonglow from the 2009 Rainbow Brite design. What made you choose this design?

Cassandra Rose:While shopping in Target, I stumbled across the re-booted Moonglow doll and fell in love with all the purple in her outfit and the way it was designed to be reminiscent of the Color Kids. Plus it was something I knew I could execute successfully.

9: When making your costume how much was handmade and how much was store bought?

Cassandra Rose: I handmade everything myself with the exception of the white underskirt/crinoline (which I purchased), the wig (which I only dyed), and the shoes (which started off black and I hand painted them).

10: What was the easiest/hardest thing to make?

Cassandra Rose: The boots were the easiest. I bought snow boots and all I had to do was paint them. They only took a few hours with dry time. The shirt however was the most difficult. Fabric stores are very scarce around here and the only fabric I could find that was the correct color was completely un-stretchy, so I had to sew the fabric onto the top of a pre-existing tank top, and velcro it together from behind. There was just no other way to construct it because it was so stiff.

11: If you could make a costume of another “Rainbow Brite” character, who would it be and why?

Cassandra Rose: It’s my plan to one day make my dog Boxcar a Sprite costume. I think that would be pretty damn adorable.

Well, Cassandra, thank you very much for sharing your rainbows with us, and we look forward to hearing more from you in the future! Keep in touch. 🙂
